Mother convicted of killing child
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
The mother of a two-year-old girl who suffered more than 100 injuries has been found guilty of her
manslaughter and jailed for nine years.
Zahbeena Navsarka, 21, was cleared at Bradford Crown Court of the murder of Sanam Navsarka who died
with fractures to all her limbs in May last year, but a jury found she was guilty of the child's
manslaughter.
Her partner Subhan Anwar, 21, was found guilty of murder following a five week trial and sentenced
to life, with a minimum of 23 years.

A mother has admitted failing to protect her two-year-old daughter who died after receiving more
than 100 injuries.
Zahbeena Navsarka and her partner Subhan Anwar, both 21, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, have
denied the murder of little Sanam Navsarka.
She died at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on May 8 last year after paramedics were called to her home
on Riddings Road, Sheepridge.
At Bradford Crown Court, Navsarka pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of failing to protect her
daughter from Anwar's acts.
The jury of six men and six women heard how Anwar, who was not Sanam's father, would punish the
young girl by putting her in a dark cupboard and neighbours described hearing him call her "a
B*****D".
Julian Goose QC, prosecuting, told the jury that Navsarka and Anwar were both responsible for
Sanam's murder.
Mr Goose said: "Whether it was one, or the other, who actually inflicted the injuries, by doing
nothing to help her or save her over a four-week period up to her death amounted to encouragement
and support for all of the violence that took place.
"They were, we say, both in it together."
The court heard that Sanam died after fractures to both her thigh bones resulted in fatty deposits
entering her bloodstream. She also had fractures to her arms.
Mr Goose said: "Sanam had been in a great deal of pain and distress over a long period leading up to
her death."
He continued: "By the time that the 999 call was made on May 8 Sanam had stopped walking, she had
difficulty breathing and she had two fractured legs and both of her arms had been fractured."
Tiny, bloody handprints were found on the inside of a cupboard in a house where a two-year-old girl
died after sustaining more than 100 injuries, a court heard.
Sanam Navsarka died after fractures to both her thigh bones resulted in fatty deposits entering her
bloodstream. She also had fractures to her arms.

Although I am not relation to Sanam I like many other people in this world think a child is a gift
to be loved and cared for and treated as if the are the most preciouse gift in the world to be
loved and raised. the bond of love between a mother and a father that should never be abused the sad
factor of life as we all know she is not the first and will not be the last to die at the hands of
people who PRETEND they love them
We as GTS members will ensure that children like Sanam will never be forgotten and even if they
have past on to gods care we are comforted with the thought that they will now be feeling the love
they deserve so much...
